Why isn't he suitable for this role? He's just like a dwarven mage, only opening portals to demons, which already makes him a demonologist.

I think a mage who studies demonology changes his appearance over time, as his essence becomes closer to them.
But I simply can't imagine a small, short creature studying demonology - people are just curious.
