Just off the top of my head - here you can read about the Rukh bird, and it also mentions Heroes of Might and Magic.

Simple horses. In the fifth game, they at least look more interesting and are more terrifying.

Taste is subjective. I don't like the rhinoceros-like appearance and the shoulders. Although, yes, they are interesting and terrifying.
