In BioWare games, money is certainly not worth much, because it's very easy to find items on expeditions that are much better than in the store, and there's nowhere to spend the money; it accumulates in the hundreds of thousands, but you'd have to search for a bigger miser than Arandor.
I also encountered this when I first played KOTOR. At first, everything is expensive, but later, money is no longer needed.
