Maybe you're just lucky, but when I played, he fiercely attacked Baal and didn't let my knights get close and attack (although in the end they still managed to attack and epically finished the battle).

Well, if he attacks himself, that's not a problem! Let him finish the battle himself. And let the archers work for the player. Besides, teleport affects Bill's troops: move them away, attack, and win ;).
