I agree, or about skeletons in Heroes 5. In general, you should quickly build up your forces so that your army grows, because in Heroes 5, unit upgrades are clearly more expensive than in Heroes 3, and it's worth upgrading a couple of units, otherwise you won't have enough resources to build the missing ones. For example, for Necropolis, you need a lot of mercury to upgrade, but you have to save it for dragons!

Skeletons without upgrades are a poor fighter, weak, and frail, but the situation changes significantly with the upgrade. I buy fighters at the beginning, and then, if there aren't enough of others, I upgrade them.
