I guess you played Oblivion, not Morrowind, right?
I played both, and I'm ready to express my hatred and disgust for this awful series by this talentless and inept company in any way possible. To keep serving up the same copy-pasted, empty, and lifeless world with NPCs generated by a randomizer, without dialogues, plot, role-playing, and with a grindy system – that's even worse than the pathetic first KotOR. TES is a dull, gray, soulless game.
But taste is subjective; Minsk and Edwin have pretty good portraits, for example. And almost no one plays with the "default" ones; as far as I remember, I always loaded custom ones into the game.
You loaded custom portraits for your companions?:) They are drawn well, but I don't like the style. They made the elves look like some kind of whores; they don't differ at all, except for the drow, who differ in skin color. Jaheira had such a great portrait in the first game, but in the second, they drew something awful. It's just terrible.
But in BG, you are the son of a god, and you fight against great dark forces.
That's the plot of any game from BioWare. Only a few details are exceptions.
