I left the catacombs and, whistling, continued on my way. Suddenly, the archmage Horvat appeared out of nowhere and complained to me about ogres who had stolen his teleportation amulet. He said that it was all Hecuba's doing. Well, okay. A couple of hours later, I came to a bridge guarded by two soldiers. They were happy to break up their boring routine with a battle against a couple of ugly ogresses, who were waving around two-handed axes.
A few hours later, I finally reached the village of Brin, desperately swatting away xenofauna with a stick. Unfortunately, no one greeted me.
The village was in chaos; the inhabitants were fighting ogres, and houses were burning.
After looking around and helping the unfortunate as much as I could, I wandered into an apple orchard, where a wolf named Isabella was running back and forth.
The wolf's husband told me that she was actually his wife, who had been cursed by Hecuba when she passed through the village. He could restore her to her former appearance if he only had his magic staff, which he had left at his house. But he couldn't get into the house because there was a fire and enemies inside. I listened, went to the house, put out the fire there, like a true hero, killed a few looters, and returned the staff to him. He was very happy and immediately broke the spell on his wife. They gave me, I think, a measly two hundred coins and about the same amount of experience, but I did it completely selflessly.
I also found a traveling merchant there, to whom I finally sold all the junk I had collected. He probably wanted to profit from the misfortune of the people who had lost everything, the scoundrel. Nevertheless, I bought a "pixie" from him for a lot of money, and it leveled up to level 2, and a "toxic cloud." I also thought that I hadn't worn a helmet for a long time, so I bought a simple cap. I thought about buying some more arrows at a slightly inflated price, but I was too stingy. In general, it was a mistake, because after walking around outside for a bit and seeing how quickly my arrows were disappearing, I decided to go back and buy more.
I really liked the toxic cloud; it consumed half of my mana, but in a few seconds, it killed a handful of enemies, and its area of effect was higher than that of a meteor.
After a while, I reached the ogre outpost.
In one place, all the exits suddenly closed, and ogres crawled out of hidden passages like cockroaches. When I went down, I even found something like a haven with a bedroom, a cage with a long-decayed prisoner, a cellar, tables for gambling and drinking, and other things.
Finally, I went through the tunnel, caused a massacre in the ogre houses, ran into the leader, and defeated him, found the amulet, and got out into the fresh air. The ever-present Horvat scared me again, and why does he even need a teleportation amulet if he can fly around like crazy?
And the captain said that his name was Jandar, and that he had a plan.
