Yes, it all started well enough; on the second turn I plugged in angels, but then, no matter how much I ran around, I didn't find a single Dragon Utopia or any worthwhile artifact. On top of that, Tyris was leveling up terribly: no logistics, no earth (though they gave me air), and no attack—they only gave defense at level 15. By the time I reached the opponent, he had boosted his stats significantly thanks to Dragon Utopias, which decided the outcome of the game.
