I like the idea of having only one resource; it would be very interesting to see such a system in Heroes.

I've already said why I don't like it. With the same success, you could make all units of all factions at the same level completely identical, changing only their appearance. It's the same as reducing the number of resources. Although you're right, it all depends on the implementation.
