In Heroes of Might and Magic, the gargoyle stopped occupying two slots only from the third part, so there it was intended to be a kind of weak unit (don't be offended by the word "weak" - the gargoyle is one of my favorite units in both the second and third parts). It would be better to base the design of the dragon golem on it. But in HoMM, the gargoyle is a low-level unit, so such a large size is not necessary. I would prefer a humanoid gargoyle closer to the first four HoMM games, where they looked quite nice.
And the djinn in the fifth game were also good, although they were also quite nice in the previous parts. And yes, I really, REALLY hope for the return of the nagas. One of my favorite units (although in the fourth game I always build djinn). It would also be good to redraw the manticore closer to the third game.
This is just my opinion. I'm not going to argue about taste.
