I think it's because adults, with their developed sense of responsibility, generally don't feel the need to lecture those who are younger or less aware. For example, a typical response to poor service in a restaurant isn't a lecture to the waiter, but rather leaving without tipping and excluding that restaurant from future visits. Of course, there are exceptions. I, for instance, spend my time and energy on preaching; I simply enjoy it (although in a restaurant, I follow the scheme described above, while others might do the opposite). The rest just looked at all this nonsense and decided – "no way," they weren't born in a trash can to allow all sorts of strange individuals with questionable sanity to boss them around.
