Well, of course not, it's not a good word. But it was necessary for expression, like a small dose of spice that only enhances the exquisite taste of the dish.
The word "consumption" exists, but it's an ordinary consumption, like eating something, buying laundry detergent, and so on.
But the main socio-political term sounds exactly like that. There's even a book with that title.
