I haven't seen that save. I only heard the story. That was enough for me.

When our "mega-father" was still active on the forums, he gave an example of taking Maxul with 4 champions and a "small feast" (which deals significantly more damage than those horses =)) - and the losses he mentioned were exactly the same as those of some average player on their first attempt. Dozens of people on the forums could replicate that battle with very similar or even lower losses, so there's no need to exaggerate the skill required to take the Hive.
