Over the past two years, the skill level on ХВ has noticeably increased, which is evident from inter-portal games at least. I wonder what could be causing it to grow?

From regular online games, which is actually what improves the skill of normal players. For many, the most interesting part is learning something on their own, possibly developing their own style, rather than just mindlessly watching ATG replays and copying them.
