Sacred Haven of Debauchery

In 1980, a resident of California (USA), Dennis Hope, noticed that natural extraterrestrial space objects officially belong to no one. Existing international treaties only stipulate that planets and stars cannot belong to states and corporations, but they say nothing about private individuals. Taking advantage of this loophole in the law, Dennis Hope declared himself the owner of all space objects in the Solar System, except for Earth and the Sun. And for a quarter of a century, no earthly court has been able to dispute Hope's right to be the owner of the Moon, Mars, and Venus – simply because earthly courts have no jurisdiction to resolve such issues. Hope considers himself the legal owner of the planets in the Solar System because it is legally impossible to prove otherwise.
