I don't know about sci-fi fans, what they're like, or how they look, but any hero in sci-fi is a guy decked out from head to toe in super-mega armor, packed with all sorts of gadgets, and carrying a ton of ranged weapons because he's too scared to get close to a dragon and take it down with a sword. And a fantasy hero is a big, strong knight who wears ordinary armor (well, maybe a little magical), a huge sword (which a sci-fi hero couldn't even lift without all that tech stuff), spends the day hacking monsters, helping people, and in the evening relaxes in a tavern.
Fantasy fans are lisping losers who spend their days consuming "grape juice" and coming up with pretentious nicknames in a Scandinavian or Elvish style.

better go to the Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy thread, you're getting annoying.
