Participants from both sides looked at each other for a single moment, which felt to them like an eternity filled with fear. The rank-and-file mages of the "defending" side were the first to rush into battle; the response was not long in coming: flashes of fire, lightning, tremors of the earth, strong winds—all natural phenomena blended together.
Then Hostor plunged his stiletto into one mage's body and severed his head with a second strike. "Pathetic apprentices," the fighter said with a smirk. Although Nebo was not a very powerful mage, he had some advantages, as he was somewhat familiar with each of the schools. Hostor again tried to quickly dispatch his opponent, but this time it was not so simple: a huge, two-meter-tall, fat mage pinned him to the ground and intended to crush the insolent man with a terrifying look. He was saved by the suddenly appearing Silverfail, who slit the fat man's spine with his katana.
- Are you okay, friend?
- Yes... - Hostor looked around the battlefield - listen, where are Magnus and Kosha?
- Who knows! We can't just stand here...
"Exactly," Arandor stood behind the battle mages, having clearly come not for small talk.
- I'll deal with him, - Silverfail said resolutely. At the same time, Lizard was "unnoticeably" making his way to the roof where Revan stood. - Hostor, stop him, he can't handle it alone!
Hostor rushed to help his comrade, leaving Silverfail alone with Arandor.
- Arandor... - Siver wanted to start, but a powerful direct kick to the chest, which sent his body crashing through a wall in the building, stopped him. Arandor had no intention of stopping; leaping onto his sworn enemy, he struck him with his hand, once again breaking through the floor. Both fell into the basement. This time Silverfail did not hesitate and immediately jumped to his feet.
- You are possessed! Stop it!
- I am not possessed in the least. I am only doing what I must - the pale-faced Arandor replied cold-bloodedly. - When I came to that castle... I wandered through it for a long time, searching... I don't know if intuition led me there or if magic accompanied me. It doesn't matter; that day I was in despair—Neyra had been kidnapped, the apprentices killed. When I realized I was lost, I entered one of the dark rooms and, leaning against the wall, began to wait... I don't know for what, but then Revan came. I was somewhat surprised to see him; it was both fear (I don't meet dead people every day) and in a way joy, for I had met a friend in this gloomy place. He asked me about what brought me here (although it seemed to me that he already knew the answers), and then said that he knew where Neyra was. I was unspeakably glad... at first. He said that he would need one favor from me, so that at the decisive moment I would be on his side. I agreed.
When he brought (in his arms) Neyra, I was saddened—she was very pale and, moreover, could not speak...
- Fool! Revan is the one who kidnapped her!
- You lie!
The fight resumed.
Revan remained as motionless as before; only his calm voice was heard from under the mask - "Vegtam, it's time to begin, proceed." The Necromancer jumped onto the palm of the statue and then began making some preparations.
Hostor was already climbing the wall of the building, trying to catch up with Lizard, constantly shouting "stop," but the fire mage had no intention of listening to him. Hostor cried out in sudden pain, and looking at his hands, saw two protruding blades—in one hand and the other, Neyra held the hilts, also pressing her feet into Hostor's back.
Meanwhile, Lizard had already reached the roof—he stood only five meters from Revan, who seemed not to notice him or was ignoring him. "Die!" - the fire mage screamed, releasing a powerful blast of flame. To his surprise, the fire simply bypassed the dark mage. Having tried other types of ranged attacks, Lizard realized it was hopeless, so he drew his sword and charged it with flame.
Until then, paying no attention to his old friend, Revan suddenly drew his sword and thrust it toward Lizard, who ran straight onto it. Pulling the blade from the body, the black mage returned it to its scabbard.
Seeing this scene, Neyra seemed to come to her senses: she left Hostor in the same position as before and hurried to that very roof. "What have you done?!"; "Lizard!" - the girl screamed.
Revan again stood indifferently, paying no attention to anything.
It seemed the "light" side was winning; having numerical superiority, they simply overwhelmed their enemies. Fixing their gaze on the dark mage standing on the roof, the mages wondered what they would do next. They missed Magnus's orders most of all right now.
Vegtam gave some sign to Revan, who then pointed both hands toward the statue. He clenched them into fists, and something began to happen... Some kind of gate formed in the center of the statue, from which various demonic creatures crawled. The mages panicked but joined the fight.
Changes were occurring in Neyra's mind, and losing her common sense, she lunged at the dark mage; he simply pushed her off the roof. Arandor seemed to snap when he realized what had happened. He abandoned the fight with Siver (by this time they were back outside) and rushed toward Revan; Siver followed him.
On the ground, only Nebo remained alive among the mages, fighting off the spawn of hell with his last strength. In the air, a sound familiar to some participants of this battle was heard—the whirring of blades—a heavy helicopter hovered over the battlefield, piloted by Vervolka. Loken and Vikhr jumped from the cargo hold, heading immediately for the center of the fight. And if the earth trembled at the first one's steps, the second was like a shadow. They effortlessly cut down dozens, even hundreds of demonic creatures, and Vervolka helped them by firing the onboard machine gun.
Revan, however, now had to fend off both Siver and Arandor (both understood without words that they needed to cooperate); he managed this without much effort. "While you guys were having fun at the academy and getting your 'fives' from under-educated teachers, I was self-improving. And here is the result—true control and power".
- You are a fool. Sooner or later everything finds its end - Siver commented.
- Yes, but not me.
More and more demons came through the portal, successfully dying at the hands of Loken and Vikhr. This time Vervolka fired several anti-tank missiles toward the "gates." Pieces of the statue flew in all directions; the gates were destroyed.
Vegtam had long since left the battlefield; he had fulfilled his part of the obligations and had already received what he wanted from Revan's hands. The dark mage, meanwhile, fought four of the strongest close-combat mages. Vervolka could not fire, as she risked hitting her "own."
Revan was clearly becoming tired of all this, and gathering a huge amount of energy, he pressed his hands against the roof of the building. Before anyone could react, it exploded, shattering into hundreds and hundreds of fragments. One such "piece" crashed directly into the helicopter, forcing it to feel gravity again and plummet to the ground. Arandor, Siver, Vikhr, Loken—lay motionless. Revan only breathed heavily but remained on his feet. "You have lost," he said.
- No, you are the one who lost! - a small dragon (Drakkoshka) fluttered in the sky, and riding it was an archmage holding a ritual spear, from which a huge amount of various magical energy leaked. The dragon rushed toward the dark mage; he didn't have time to do anything, and the spear plunged into his chest. Pulling out the spear, Magnus intended to make another strike, but the end of the blade was caught by the dark mage's hand. Another explosion—this time Revan charged the archmage's spear with energy and blew it up. Both Drakkoshka (having lost control over her transformation) and Magnus were thrown back several meters.
Revan approached the archmage, grabbed him by the throat, and lifted him. The dark mage, with great reluctance, decided to take the life of his old friend. Only a dagger plunging into the mage's back prevented Magnus's death. The hilt of the dagger was held by the heavily breathing Arandor...
Time stopped... Everyone froze, and the world was filled with a bright white light, beyond which nothing could be seen. What happened? How will this event affect the whole world? What fate awaits all who took part in this bloody battle? The future is covered by a veil of darkness...
P.S. "The End"
P.P.S. I wrote it very haphazardly. Really, really so.
