Everything was going pretty well, except for the failed negotiations. Since reaching an agreement with James proved impossible, I will have to resort to other methods. The inhabitants of the Domain of Earth are distinguished by their resilience and are perfectly suited to Pyro's needs. We began conducting raids to
recruit worker units. One of these raids is particularly memorable.
We set off for
Orgren. A province famous for its granite mining, which includes several mining towns. As usual, Festus assisted in the raid. His responsibilities were to calculate the number and assess the quality of the slaves, and then distribute them to their workplaces. Somewhere in this area was also Sorcha, who had been sent here earlier for reconnaissance, and I needed to contact her.
Of course, the work was not going to be easy, and soon we encountered Charlotte and her garrison. I can say that fighting against Earth is a complete displeasure. That day, I met their artillery for the first time. Huge creatures throwing boulders that shook the rocks, disrupted the formation, and prevented me from casting spells. It should be added that gargoyles, throwing deadly stone fragments from the air, basilisks that turn any organic matter into stone, and, of course, their tamed rocky bulls, which, when wounded, grow a shell that is very difficult to penetrate, were also present. Fortunately, my loyal trolls and well-proven rocket launchers fought truly fiercely. With great effort and heavy losses, I managed to break through to the enemy outpost, which I then occupied, setting up a serious defense there. It blocked Charlotte's further counterattacks, which allowed me to briefly recover and quickly sweep through the nearby camps, herding the population en masse to Festus. There I met Sorcha, lost in gloomy thoughts. She told me that her heart was breaking at the sight of simple peasants being branded and condemned to slavery. But what can be done? Pyro provides them with good working conditions, providing protection from divine strife. Finally, the god himself joined our conversation, finally convincing the empress that all this is for the good and leads to a Bright Future. He was so sincere, so open and direct that even I did not feel a microgram of falsehood in his words. However, it is time to finish with the work.
I gathered the missing workers, took them to Festus, and received Pyro's blessing and gratitude. However, this was not important to me. Because before I approached the last village, HE appeared before me.
Marduk.
"What...? You want to know who he is, Mitros?" the elder interrupted my memories. "Okay, I'll tell you..."
1) Pyromaniac. One of Festus's brethren, a gnome, who followed him to serve Pyro. He has a rocket launcher on his shoulder, no more, no less. It shoots far and hard, and also sets the target on fire.
2) Faint traces of a terrible battle. Explosions, tongues of flame, a screen shaking every three seconds. I captured a manalith and attached rocket launchers and a troll to it. It seems that they had enough range even for the artillery.
3) I managed to simultaneously capture the projectiles and Charlotte under
stone form. A spider. She constantly mumbles, she doesn't shut up.
4) Doesn't look very good in a static image, but it's very unpleasant to receive. It seems they just threw me and interrupted the casting of
dragon flame. By the way, I found out that the ring of fire also slows down the target, and the fewer hit points my trolls have, the harder they hit. Nice.
5) Sorcha standing majestically on a cliff.
6) These people greet me and don't even suspect that life will soon become better and more fun.
7) Festus has lined them up and is preparing to leave.
8) I am accompanying the column to the recruitment center.
