What does my problem mean? If I flew in with a single unit and decided to crash into this guard, is that allowed? Or is it simply dismissing the hero?

Pasha, in the situation you described, where it was impossible to fly anywhere else except directly into the mine, it is permissible that you broke through the mine guard after taking it in the same turn, with the same troops that the Hero had. In other words, if you did as I described now, it is not a violation.

However, if the player understood that he had only one unit, understood that he couldn't break through the mine guard, and that the mine was neutral (meaning it needed to be captured), but still flew there with a single unit, then that is certainly not allowed, and it would be considered a technical violation, just like a direct violation of the rules.
