I explain Isabel's recklessness in this matter by the fact that she didn't know what Nicholas could become, although she should have guessed or did guess that something might not be right, but love played a role here, and besides, Markel managed to impose himself very strongly, skillfully playing on her emotions, such a skilled strategist and psychologist, if you can call him that, should not be overlooked either. In general, I can even assume that Isabel became a victim of circumstances (yes, yes, I'm kind of defending the Empress :)).
But what Raileg did, I don't understand, he had to conquer all of Igg-Shail for the sake of a woman, he doesn't look like a noble knight at all, living by the highest principles :D The betrayal of Kha-Beleh can still be explained by Agaiel only considering his personal gain.
