Dude, you're acting like you discovered America:). I've always sent ranged units into Hives, without any melee penalty (except maybe for the weak mages from the Tower).
If we exclude mages, then only upgraded Fanatics and Titans are left without penalties. Kostya, so you usually take Titans into Hives? :D
