Heroes of Malgrim: "A magical world of magic"

I don't understand one thing: how do you fight neutral heroes at the beginning of the game when their army is many times larger?

As practice shows, the easiest way is to kill the hero himself; then the army will become insignificant and won't pose much of a problem.
