Androgyny is the simultaneous manifestation of feminine (womanly) and masculine (manly) traits in a person, combined with adequate gender self-awareness and a clear gender identity. That is, a man recognizes himself as a man, but depending on the situation, he may exhibit feminine or masculine traits (the same applies to women). People with an androgynous psychological gender adapt better to new conditions and orient themselves more quickly in unexpected situations. This is because their behavioral models are the most diverse compared to exclusively feminine or exclusively masculine behavior.

Androgyny is more common in women. This is explained by the cultural and historical development of Russia, in which the feminine behavioral model was not always effective, and women were forced to use the masculine behavioral model to increase their effectiveness. Men with an androgynous psychological gender are less common than masculine men, and compared to them, they are more flexible in communication and establishing social contacts.

Androgyny is often found in people over 30, due to career growth, professional maturity, and the appearance of children, which requires the manifestation of both feminine and masculine qualities.
