That's how it was. I even had some money on respawn and bought two dwarven strongholds, level 15-20, but I still couldn't buy everything. Maybe I shouldn't have built that sky temple. Because I still didn't have enough dragon shards to buy giants, and I had to attack with an incomplete army. I hoped that Gunnar didn't have mass haste, or better yet, no haste at all. But that wasn't the case. With mass haste, and with an advantage in combat parameters and army, the opponent kills almost everyone in the first round.
