A stump is meant to be hit. It's not strong in attack (with only 10-20 damage and an attack stat of 19), but it's the most durable in defense.
When this tree buries itself in the ground, melee units should generally avoid attacking it, as they'll spend the entire battle "entangled," receiving counterattacks from the Ent (in its buried state, like Griffins and Golems, the Ent has infinite retaliation). Casting "Divine Might!" and "Stone Skin" on it is only worthwhile if you have these spells in large quantities; otherwise, there are more suitable targets. You can't turn an Ent into a decent damage dealer due to its low initiative and damage; its role is to absorb damage and block/entangle enemy units.
