Yes, it can affect any week, it's just a rare occurrence. Trading down to zero can happen on any week.

Exactly, on the second week it can sometimes be tough to take the Griffin Conservatory, but how often do people build angels in the first week? And even in the second week, it's not that common... Bears aren't even built in every game on the first week. Still, earning 35,000 gold (20,000 portal + 15,000 angels) is harder than beating up some poor griffins.

I didn't mean angels specifically. Five free horses are more than enough to cause some trouble. The same construction costs, you only pay for recruitment. Do you believe they'll pay off? :)

Yes. 5k is free in this case. Why bother building a Castle (for example) for 5k if the third-level growth is already sitting at home and you can use that gold to recruit it instead. And grabbing the Griffin Conservatory/Dragon Fly Hive before your opponent is not free, you need to think about that. I'm not talking about cases when one player has about 4 conservatories near their home, and the other has them far away. Then you need to look for something else earlier — artifacts, external dwellings, magic..
