What should I do if the Lizardmen haven't been built in the Swamp Castle at the start? Should I build Lizardmen or Snakes?

I always build 3 Mermen if there are no or few enemy units, so I can always rush. Then, I build 4 Vassals, which are cheap and, in my opinion, better than 2 Wyverns. I don't upgrade Lizardmen on the first day, and I don't need many of them. With the ones I have, I can reduce the stacks of neutral creatures by luring them under direct fire with the 3 Mermen, and then finish them off with Goblins. It's better to start with 3 Mermen.
