I often notice that when playing as the Swamp faction, players prioritize building and upgrading Lizards to Lizard Warriors. Why and when is this done, and in what situations is it beneficial?

Personally, if I do upgrade (playing as the Fortress faction) in the first week, it's only when there's a specific need for it, meaning to achieve a particular goal that regular Lizards can't accomplish.

For example, if upgrading the Birds in the Castle only increases their speed and not their damage, then upgrading the Lizards also increases their damage by about 20%.
