Beards and bumps somehow bother me. Here's what I managed to find in Brehm's large animal encyclopedia: "...The Hairy Flying Horned Snout (hereinafter referred to as the Hairy Snout) is the ancestor of the Bald Snout. The shaggy fur was needed by it during the Ice Age. The huge, spreading horns that adorned the heads of male Snouts were too heavy during flight, and the animals flew upside down. They were called Snouts not because their ears were located on their noses, but because they made characteristic hooting sounds with their noses. They became extinct in the Pleistocene epoch because they lost their brains in the process of evolution, as they were no longer needed. Later, they realized their mistake, but it was too late."
