The events of the second and third games take place on different continents, so the differences in appearance are quite natural. As are the differences in stats and units for each faction. In the fourth game, it's after a catastrophe, which inevitably left its mark on the characters' appearances. So, everything was logical. But in the fifth game, it's the opposite – the units are too similar to what they shouldn't be, considering the novelty of the world!
