to avoid unnecessary stress during the playthrough, you need to level up your hero "correctly" and not touch Nicholas until you destroy all the dragon nests. I only lost about ten fairies throughout the entire mission, and it would be **stupid** to give the dwarven set for phoenixes; it helped a lot in completing the game without losses.
