Regarding the skill tree, it's clear that it's not the right path, and it's better to approach it with a higher level. As for bringing friends, I don't understand why this question arose (not just from you) - what's the point of bringing them if they die from a single hit with a full stack of griffins? You could just as easily replace them with one of your own griffins.
