Dwarf vs. Wingayel (Lands of Outcasts)

Have you already tried this tactic? If so, against whom and what was the result?

Ora does this almost against half of the heroes in duel mode! And it's quite successful!

Dwarves are mages; this is evident from the starting skills of most heroes, as well as from the probability of obtaining core stats. On average, a Dwarf develops along the lines of 10-10-15-15. Armageddon will be quite effective due to education.
It's useless to fight Wingard's first turn head-on. His stacks will still move earlier, and counting on a 3-month army, they will hit very hard (and with the "Enmity" spell).
This is only possible if you manage to find artifacts like a staff that reduces the opponent's initiative by 20% and get a ring with +20 initiative for yourself; then you can count on going first – then you can confidently switch to the Light skill and even develop Helmar
