As long as no potential participant outright refuses to play 8mm6, from my perspective, a good player should be able to play with any rule set and learn those they have less experience with, rather than sticking to just one familiar one.

The issue isn't that the organizers are pushing anything, but rather the traditions of the community and certain requirements for the tournament format. The Heroes community is quite democratic, so it's extremely difficult for an organizer to go against the collective will. In St. Petersburg, everyone plays 8mm6, and they look down on CM. In Kyiv, it's the opposite. Therefore, there are no problems with choosing the rules in these cities. But in Moscow, there are more people, so the range of tastes is wider. There are many strong and respected Heroes players who vote for 8mm6, both in number and in skill. Moreover, I think it wouldn't be difficult for them to play CM, but they're not particularly interested; it's like switching from a racing bike to a tricycle. Yes, it's still a bike, but it's just not the same. Plus, the factor of greater imbalance in the random map generation is annoying – you want to win or lose because of your correct or incorrect decisions, not because of the whims of the generator. After all, the goal is to identify the strongest players, not just to have fun playing with ponies. Similarly, Light is chosen because of the chess clocks, buttons, and the option to set road types. Because the tournament is fast-paced, it's necessary to reduce the duration of the matches as much as possible, but without sacrificing the content. This is also why there are suggestions for re112 instead of re113 and for canceling restarts upon encountering an issue; this is not a whim of the organizers, but a requirement of the situation. Navukh cites Kyiv as an example, but he would be better off not doing so, because a lot of players with only 2 games in 2 days is more of an anti-example. I hope there won't be such a mess in St. Petersburg.
