What do you think about Linux systems?

In our school, one IT specialist who is also a Linux enthusiast installed KDE on all the computers in the computer labs. So, instead of Excel and Photoshop, we will be using Calc and GIMP.

KDE is just a shell; it's not the system itself. The thing is that in Unix-like systems, the graphical interface and the system itself are practically different things. KDE is the most user-friendly shell from the perspective of a Windows user. It's even more convenient than Windows itself.

And what, since when do they "study" Photoshop in schools?

You should listen to your IT specialist, take an example from him (of course, only the best aspects), and support him in every way possible. His hobbies are the hobbies of a person who doesn't want to be "like everyone else," to be one of the gray masses.

I heard that it's some kind of national project. Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems that schools don't have enough money for licensed Windows, and to avoid installing pirated software, they decided to use free software.

In our university, in some computer labs, OpenOffice is installed instead of Microsoft Office. They are also saving money.

In reality, it's not just about money, although that's also a factor. The main thing is that open-source software is not only more financially advantageous because it allows you to solve the same (and often even more) tasks for free, but it also contributes more to "computer literacy" and education. ;)
