So... There's definitely a clue hidden in these words, but where exactly is it?

Here we have "horrible mutilation," "dancing all night" (or simply "dancing"), "stench," "herbs," "hanging ears," "stove," and "a set of scrolls." Which of these is it??:confused:

It should be noted that the phrase "hanging ears" can be interpreted as an idiom, meaning "attentive listening" - this fits the profile of Vortex quite well... "A set of scrolls" could be a "library" - which is also something our suspect has (a userbar)...
