During the Mandalorian Wars, Revan and Malak discovered a mysterious artifact of the long-lost Rakata race in the ruins on the planet Dantooine – the Star Map, which pointed to the "greatest weapon" of the Rakata – the Star Forge. The map was incomplete, but it contained accurate coordinates for the location of the remaining maps. After discovering the missing pieces of the puzzle on the planets Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Manaan, and Korriban, Revan, Malak, and the remnants of the fleet under their command, after defeating the Mandalorians, set off into the Unknown Regions, where they found the last planet of the Rakatan Empire and a giant space factory - the Star Forge. By deceiving the Elder Council of the Rakata into helping them, Revan seized control of the Forge.

Tat(t)auin (Arabic: تطاوين‎; transliteration variants: Tatooine, Tatwin, Tatauin, as well as Fum-Tataouin, etc.) is a city in southern Tunisia, the administrative center of the governorate of Tataouine.

The local ksur (fortified Berber granaries), including Ksar Ouled Sultan, Chenini, and Douiret, are attractions of the city. Currently, settlements with mud-brick architecture, where these granaries were located, are abandoned.

Tatooine gained fame thanks to George Lucas's film "Star Wars," which was filmed in various locations in Tunisia, including Tatooine itself, "in honor" of which the planet Tatooine was named. However, most of the landscapes of the alien Tatooine were filmed in another city, Matmata.
