Does the angel have a 10% chance of gaining morale? Should I surrender or play it out?
One angel doesn't decide the game, but losing is possible. You can take a defensive position after the growth phase and then go on the offensive.
In a fan-made game, I would also take the risk. But if the result is the most important thing, the risk is very high.
As a poker player, what do you think? Compare the probability of angels gaining morale in the first round (it's not critical in the others) with the increased probability of winning the game with an extra angel (with 121, 2 angels are clearly better than 1).
There's a correlation: if you're playing against an opponent you're going to win against anyway, maybe it's not worth the risk. But if you're playing against an equal or stronger opponent, going for a defensive position is definitely the better option in terms of odds.
Plus, you can take autosaves if something goes wrong (not for everyone, but still).
KostyaN, I remember, took 3 defensive positions with angels in the first week of the game and didn't even flinch.
