Also, I heard that you can buy a hero from the tavern even if they lost in battle, as long as you have enough money, by cycling through the heroes, i.e., buying and dismissing them. 1. I always thought it did, but I doubted it and checked. For Christian at level 1, the damage to butterflies showed 8-13; after adding experience in "Archery," it became 11-17. So it does affect it, but the stated 50% increase is not achieved; rather, it's closer to 30%.
2. You can "dig up" a hero, but there are no ways to optimize the digging process. Only if there is a hero of the same class in the tavern as the one you are looking for, then you should dig under him, because two heroes of the same class cannot appear when purchased in the tavern. I won a couple of games after both my hero and my opponent's hero died, by digging up one of them.
