Gallhammer

This is the rawest, most unpolished, and most primal sound I've heard in a long time, and in the best possible sense! Gallhammer is an all-female trio from Japan. I mention the gender of the band members simply because it is not often that women play in such a psychotic experimental metal style with elements of death trip. They can also be described as a simplified version of Hellhammer, as well as early Celtic Frost. The girls simply don't care about complex song structures and a "signature" sound. However, they cannot be called cheap; rather, they are a pronounced antithesis to "corporate" bands. The voices are difficult to characterize as female - a very deep, strained vocal. These girls can make the listener shudder and cringe without ultra-heavy riffs on downtuned strings. And although they have nothing in common with such genres as sludge or doom, their sound, compared to many other doom metal bands, creates a much heavier atmosphere.
