Dream Theater

The discography in the first post can be updated :) Right now, I can add the band to my list of favorites (Maiden is starting to get a bit repetitive and boring). The relatively new albums, Systematic Chaos (In The Presence of Enemies, and especially the solo – it’s simply amazing!) and Octavarium (Panic Attack – one of my favorite tracks by the band), seem particularly interesting. Train of Thought is heavy and gloomy, but also quite interesting. By the way, the latest album also turned out to be pretty good; maybe I just haven’t fully listened to it yet. So far, the most notable tracks seem to be the last one (the long solo and the concluding part, in particular), as well as A Rite of Passage. The band doesn’t immediately “click”; you need to listen carefully and play the albums several times. It seems that this is a characteristic feature of progressive music in general. But you can listen to it for a very long time, as it doesn’t get boring :)
O God of Earth and Altar,
Bow down and hear our cry,
Our earthly rulers falter,
Our people drift and die,
The walls of gold entomb us,
The swords of scorn divide,
Take not thy thunder from us,
Take away our pride.

G.K. Chesterton: English Hymnal
