And here's another question: is capturing an opponent's empty Castle considered an attack? For example, if I'm playing as Red and have troops from the new army growth on the first day of the week, can I use them to capture empty Castles of my opponent?

It seems to me that it does count, and not just for cities, but even for mines and hidden resources (everything that's already been claimed).
