Not exactly. Rather, it has become more stereotypical. Probably due to a certain similarity among different authors, and also due to their authority. That is, Tolkien's orcs will be more similar to "real" orcs than Vasya M.'s orcs.

P.S. The castle distribution for heroes is a minor detail. The main thing is that it shouldn't be too obvious (like a devil among humans), and the rest is not so important. After all, for most people, this is a game designed for multiplayer battles, and in those battles, you think about "why are gnomes and elves in the same castle" last.
