Dates behave differently even when I perform the same actions.

Try not to position the units. In this case, the Birds always attack air units because they deal the most damage after the Fairies, and they have few hit points (I mean this specific case). If you block the air units, the Birds will always attack the Elementals. So, there is a certain logic. For example, when there are only 2-3 Birds left, they no longer attack the Elementals and air units (due to the fear of retaliation) and instead attack the remaining Water Elementals and Fire Elementals.
