Rhubarb (Latin: Rheum) is a genus of plants in the buckwheat family.

These are perennial, very large herbs with thick, woody, branched rhizomes.

The above-ground stems are annual, straight, thick, hollow, and sometimes slightly furrowed.

Basal leaves are very large, long-petioled, entire, palmately lobed, or toothed, sometimes wavy at the edge; petioles are cylindrical or multi-faceted, and at the base are equipped with large sheaths. Stem leaves are smaller.
Reproduces by seeds; (hee-hee) in cultivation, by dividing the adult plant so that each part of the root has a bud (eye); the latter method is more likely to produce larger leaves.
