Confirmed.
The Kentaur lair was on the edge of the map, but the Dendroid and unique creature lairs were a real opportunity, as Wlk777 later pointed out to me. I regretted not buying another hero for scouting during the first week; I thought 6 would be enough, and I missed that opportunity. There was another chance in the third week to move all my creatures to the Treasure location, gather resources, and build up my forces. But I didn't take advantage of it either, and decided to attack the capital.
