Um... generally, the smaller the Sun, the hotter it burns, and the larger it is, the weaker... So if it starts to "expand," we're more likely to face an ice age than the opposite – it will start to shrink and turn blue (such suns are hotter), and then it will burn us... and then explode...
I agree with that. First, the Earth will freeze, and then the Sun will become so large that it will simply engulf the Earth (or, more precisely, when the star gets close enough, the Earth will evaporate). However, due to the decrease in the Sun's mass (which loses 4 million tons per second), the Earth's orbit will increase, but it's not a given that it will increase faster than the star's size. But even now, scientists with their supercomputers cannot say for sure what will happen in "a few billion years."
Yeah, and we won't survive without the sun...
It seems like people didn't quite understand my point. Well, never mind, I just wanted to point out the absurdity of the statement with a similar absurdity, and instead, we had a perfectly reasonable discussion about astronomy :D
