Regarding the gnomish strategy against Barbarians, I think it's designed for Test Environment (TE) where neutral creature morale is disabled.

That's exactly where I tested the max gnomish strategy, but with morale enabled. There wasn't an option to disable it back then, and I generally don't play with morale disabled.
