Popobawa (Swahili) is supposedly, according to unverified reports from female researchers, a creature described as a dwarf with a single eye in the center of its forehead, small, pointed ears, wings, and bat-like claws, known for anally raping sleeping men who doubt its existence whenever the opportunity arises. It only attacks men, and there are no recorded instances of violence against women or children.

The presence of the often invisible Popobawa can be detected by a strong odor or clouds of smoke. Sometimes, Popobawa is visible to everyone except the frightened victim. According to beliefs, this creature takes on human form during the day, but with sharp, distinctive fingers. After carrying out its vile deed, Popobawa forces its victims to tell everyone about the attack, threatening to return and repeat the act of violence if they don't.
