If Dark Elves had Fan of Arrows with spellcasting, then everyone would be in trouble. Probably the most useful thing would be to give them leadership as a bonus. Anyway, in the mid-game, you can't do without having elf creatures from other castles in your army, and leadership will help maintain morale.
